Black Swan Affair

Black Swan Affair by KL Kreig

5 stars!!!

So a few days later and I don’t know how to review this book

^^In a good way!!!!

But I do know this:

When a trusted book friend approached me and said I would love this book, all she had to do was tell me the magic word: ANGST. And I was sold! I preordered the shit out of this book. I ignored the fact that it was a love triangle and dived right in! And I am so glad I did.

The plot, the characters, the feels, the angst? ALL SUPERB! This is one of those unputdownable books you don’t come across very often. I am ashamed to say I hadn’t even heard of this author until now, but I will be reading her books as soon as I am able. Because this book was something special.

Of the love triangle, the guy I was rooting for?:

I have already told so many of my book friends to read this book, and hopefully despite this blabbering and incoherent review you will take a chance and read it too!!!!

A Love Letter to Whiskey

A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner

4 stars!

“You know, they say that Bill Wilson asked for whiskey as his dying wish. The man was dying, at the end of the line, and he wanted the one vice he’d been fighting all his life. Even the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous wanted whiskey on his deathbed.”

B is addicted and her drug of choice is whiskey. She’s not a literal alcoholic, but the man she loves Jamie aka Whiskey, is a man she finds herself addicted to. B meets Jamie in high school and sees the moment he falls for her best friend. Over the years the two remain friends, with something more simmering in the background. But timing was never their strong point, and the two cannot seem to make it work.

Yet B always comes back to Jamie, like an alcoholic with her drink of choice. Then comes the question, succumb to her addiction, or sober up?

“Even when we know something is bad for us, we do it anyway. Maybe for the thrill, maybe to cure our curiosity, or maybe just to lie to ourselves a little longer.”

So this book basically blew up my entire social media when it came out, and I had to say it worked. I was intrigued. I had never heard of Kandi Steiner, but I found myself wanting to take a chance on a new author because so many people were talking about this book. So I took that chance, and I enjoyed every bit of my journey into the lives of these characters.

Reading this book made me want to sip a glass of whiskey, needing a drink to sooth the angst between the two characters. All of my bookish friends know I am an angst whore always looking for my next hit, and this was the whiskey shot of angsty novels. I loved it! I wouldn’t consider this a “love triangle” for those who have heard it is. It’s more a novel of bad timing and characters who cannot get past their own issues. This book is very much about the personal journey each character goes through to get to the place they need to be at.

I devoured this book, drank it whole and I want more! Kandi Steiner, I raise my glass to you for this wonderful story. I cannot wait to read more from you as soon as possible.

“That’s what life’s about. It’s about paddling out and fighting the waves until you find the perfect one to ride home on.”

Royally Screwed

Royally Screwed by Emma Chase

4.5 stars!

“If you were told that the world as you knew it-life as you knew it-would end in five months, what would you do?”

Royally Screwed is the enchanting new story of a young modern day prince who falls in love with a waitress from New York. While visiting the states, Prince Nicholas drunkenly wanders into a pie shop where he meets Olivia, a beauty who doesn’t recognize him and spurs his advances. Armed with wit and a sharped tongue, Olivia is at first appalled by the handsome foreigner. But when he keeps coming by, she can see that there is more to him than she initially thought.

The two embark on a whirlwind romance, but Nicholas has royal obligations and Olivia needs to help keep her family together. But both of them have fallen for each other, and must decide whether or not to hang onto what they have, or let it go forever.

This book was SO. MUCH. FUN! I’m not normally one for sweet and fairy tale like romances, but this one swept me off my feet and kept me entertained until the very end! I loved reading about Nicholas and Olivia and their beautiful love story. Not once did it feel like instalove for me, and I found myself laughing out loud while reading this book and at other times wiping away rogue tears.

If you are already an Emma Chase fan, you will love this book. If you haven’t read one of her books until now, you will be charmed by this one and will beg for more.

Release Day: October 18, 2016

Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled Series & Legal Briefs Series, returns with the first of three sizzling standalone books about a family of racy, irresistible Royals.

Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka “His Royal Hotness”, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant—hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.

Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.

Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.

Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.

There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately—the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.

But to Olivia—Nicholas is worth it.

Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is, but more importantly, who he wants to be: a King… or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.

Emma Chase is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the hot and hilarious Tangled series and The Legal Briefs series. Emma lives in New Jersey with her husband, two children and two naughty (but really cute) dogs. She has a long-standing love/hate relationship with caffeine.

She’s even lovelier than I remembered, than I dreamed. Delicate midnight tendrils frame a face that belongs in a museum—with stunning dark sapphire eyes that should be commemorated in vibrant oils and soft watercolors. If Helen launched a thousand ships, this girl could raise a thousand hard-ons.

She’s prettily made, the top of her head coming only to my chin, but fantastically curvy. Great full tits that strain the buttons of a wrinkled white blouse, shapely hips in a black skirt tapering to a tiny waist I could wrap my hands around and toned legs encased in sheer black tights finish off the whole package very nicely.

An unfamiliar anxiousness fizzes like soda in my gut.

“The door was open,” I explain.

“It’s broken.”

Logan flicks at the lock. Security is his life, so a broken lock would annoy him like a puzzle with the final piece missing.

“What do you want?”

She has no idea who I am. It’s in the defensive way she holds herself and the accusatory note in her voice. Some women try to pretend they don’t recognize me, but I can always tell. Her ignorance is rather…thrilling. There are no expectations, no hidden agendas, no reasons to pretend—what she sees is what she gets. And all she sees is me.

My throat is suddenly a barren wasteland. I swallow, but it’s difficult.

“Well, he’s desperate for some pie.” I hook my thumb at Simon. “And I…wanted to apologize for the other evening. I don’t normally act that way. I was on a bit of bender…”

“In my experience, people don’t do things when they’re drunk that they wouldn’t do normally.”

“No, you’re right. I would’ve thought all those things, but I never would’ve said them out loud.” I move closer, slowly. “And if I’d been sober…my opening bid would’ve been much higher.”

“She crosses her arms. “Are you trying to be cute?”

“No. I don’t have to try…it just sort of happens.”

Honor by Jay Crownover

4 stars!

“Sometimes you have to burn it all, level it all to the ground, for something new to sprout out of the ashes.”

Nobody know knows Nassir would call him the good guy. But that doesn’t mean he’s always a bad man. For years he has watched Keelyn, knowing what is between them and waiting patiently. Keelyn has recently fled the point after being put directly in the face of danger. She has no desire to go back, but when Nassir visits her in her new home, she cannot stop thinking about his offer.

Together they have the ability to rule The Point, but is that what Keelyn really wants? Or will she let the fears of “what if” stand in the way of her and Nassir.

“So simple yet so unbelievably complicated. Everything about this man always was.”

Reading this book one thing became very clear to me: Jay Crownover put her heart and soul into writing this story. You can feel how much it means to her when you read it. Nassir is a new kind of character, one you normally only find in the dark romance novels. But what I liked about him was his logic behind his actions and the fact that he was a very rational man, he just understood the kind of world he lived in wasn’t unicorns and rainbows.

Keelyn was a great protagonist, a strong woman who didn’t take crap from anyone. She wasn’t afraid to smack down anyone who crossed her which was kind of awesome. A very compelling story with diverse and intriguing characters, this is a book by Jay Crownover you don’t want to miss!

Punk 57

Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas

4 stars

“We were perfect for each other. Until we met.”

Misha and Ryen have been pen pals since they were kids, being paired up by accident as Ryen is a boyish name and the teachers made a mistake. Over the years the two keep in touch, becoming essential to one another. But they made rules, no cell phones, no Facebook and no meeting. When Misha randomly attends a party and realizes Ryen is there, he doesn’t find what he expected.

What happens when you love someone, and then are disappointed when you meet them?

“There’s no one like you, and I can’t love you if you stop being you.”

Penelope Douglas never fails to deliver a unique and intriguing story with compelling characters. I think the timing in this book was perfect, all of the revelations and reveals happened at the right moments without feeling forced. The book had a great flow to it and once you pick it up you won’t be able to put it down.

I felt so much for Ryen for most of the book. I know what’s it’s like to have been teased and bullied in elementary school, and those scars never completely go away. I understood and related to all of her actions and feelings because I went through them myself. I think Douglas included important messages in this book, most prevalent to me was there’s more to a person than meets the eye.

“We’re all ugly, Ryen. The only difference is, some hide it and some wear it.”

Keepsake by Sarina Bowen

4 stars!

“I didn’t mind taking care of the people who take care of me.”

Zach was born and raised on a compound by a religious cult, until the age of 19 when they tossed him aside and left him homeless. Now at the age of 23 he lives and works on the Shipley farm, a place that he can call home. Lark is a family friend of the Shipleys, and after living a nightmare while working a job in a foreign country she needs a place to relax and put her demons behind her.

Lark’s issues are a lot more significant than anyone realized, and Zach often finds himself comforting Lark when she has nightmares. As time goes by their attraction for each other deepens, but Zach still needs to work on his issues of abandonment, and Lark isn’t ready to admit how much her ordeal in South America has messed with her head.

“Zach wasn’t just a guy I happened to be attracted to. He was special. Zach was a better person than… well, just about anybody. He ought to be handled with care.”

I’ve wanted to read Zach’s book since his appearance in Bittersweet, and Sarina Bowen delivered a wonderful story! Zach isn’t a jerk, he isn’t an alpha. He’s a sweet farmer, but it doesn’t make him any less sexy. He was also the perfect man for Lark, as he had so much love in his heart to give.

Lark was a very interesting character, she was affluent and a hard worker. She needed help yet had no idea she needed to ask for it, and when she did she was scared to. Her circumstances could have happened to anyone in her situation and I felt for the poor girl and her hardships.

This was a delightful slow burn romance, that when it ignited it was hot! Makes you want to take your chances on Vermont and see if there are any hot apple pickers there who are single!

Twisted Palace

Twisted Palace by Erin Watt

3 stars!

WARNING! IF YOU HAVENT READ PAPER PRINCESS OR BROKEN PRINCE THERE WILL BE SPOILERS! If you HAVE read those two books, you should be free from spoilers.

Well, this has been an incredible and wild ride and I am so happy to have been a part of it! Every book has been full of twists and turns and Twisted Palace follows in that tradition.

As we discovered at the end of Broken Prince, Brooke has been murdered and Reed is the prime suspect. On top of that, Ella’s father Steve has come back from the dead and shown up on her doorstep. It’s now up to the Royal’s to figure out a way to clear Reed’s name while at the same time managing the gossip around town about them. Along the way they find some unexpected road blocks, and Ella and Reed seek help in unexpected places.

That’s really all I can say without spoilers. I do think fans of the series will devour this book and many will be happy with the series end. I liked that we still had unexpected twists and shocks throughout this final book, the last twenty percent was very thrilling and we receive lots of answers. Ella and Reed together were fantastic, very strong and resilient. They have such faith in each other and their journey from when they met to where they ended up is one full of growth and love.

I enjoyed this book, but it for me it lacked that “OMG” factor the first two inspired in me. It felt as if there was no clear path for a lot of the book, and then everything resolved quickly at the end. There were many points where I was very frustrated with the story. But despite that as I said I enjoyed the end and look forward to more from these two authors, I am beyond excited for a possible book about Easton. (And praying for a book about Wade). (And a book about the twins). YES I KNOW I AM GREEDY! BUT I WANT MORE ROYALS!

I’m naturally gifted on the field and between the sheets. With flashy cars and enough media attention to put the Royal Family to shame, I’m the definition of Most Eligible Bachelor.

I’ve never met a man who doesn’t want to be me or a woman who doesn’t want to tame me. Until I meet Camila.

From the moment I lay eyes on her, I know I have to have her.

She wants to keep me at arm’s length.
I want her naked in my bed.

She thinks our worlds are too different.
All I want her to think about is screaming my name.

She says I’m bad news.

I have three weeks to prove her wrong.

“Are you upset I crashed your friend-date?” he asked, his eyes searching mine.
“Would it make a difference?”
“No.” He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Maybe. This is new territory for me, Camila.”
“The stalking thing?” I asked, smiling at his flustered look.
“That and . . .” he shook his head, moving close to me again, pressing me flat against the wall behind me, “this.”
His free hand traveled down my spine, stopping on my ass, which he grabbed a handful of this time. My lips parted as I gasped, watching the way his eyes darkened. Our lips met at the same time, our tongues crashing in each other’s mouths in a wild escapade. I wrapped my arms around his neck, willing myself closer to him. My pelvis rocking against his very pronounced erection, my bare chest covered by only the thin layer of fabric brushing against the buttons of his hard muscled chest.
“You’re killing me,” he whispered against my lips, taking hold of both sides of my face. “You’re fucking killing me and you don’t even know it.”
The fire inside me spread through me, roaring through my veins with each touch, each drop of his lips on a different part of me, my shoulders, my neck, my collarbone. My stomach ached with the absolute need I felt for him.
“I don’t want to want you this much,” I whispered when our lips broke apart again.
His eyes searched mine, his gaze softening. “But you do.”
“But I do.”
“And you can’t will the feeling away.”
I shook my head, looking at him as if he was going to give me some kind of antidote for this. Whatever this was.
“Neither can I,” he said, placing his forehead against mine. “Neither can I.”

Thief of Hearts

Thief of Hearts by LH Cosway

5 stars!

“Stu Cross wasn’t as predictable as I thought, and even though I was the teacher in this situation, somehow it felt like I’d been schooled.”

Thief of Hearts is the story of Stu and Andrea. We previously met Stu in the last two hearts books and know from those he was sent to prison, taking the fall for his brother Lee. Now two years later he’s out, and some demons came with him.

Andrea is his teacher for some adult learning courses, and the two feel a spark right off the bat. But Andrea’s past prevents her from moving forward, and on top of that teacher and student relationships are forbidden. But Stu and Andrea grow closer over time, finding they both understand the other more than the people around them.

“I guess you live and you learn.”
“But that’s just it, Andrea. Some of us never learn at all.”

So I went into this book completely blind as to the plot and I highly recommend you do that as well. It enhances the experience. I always had a soft spot for Stu in the previous books, but I totally fell in love with him in this book. His journey to the man he became was a rough one, and at many times we saw him in a very vulnerable state. It made him seem more human and easy to empathize with. When you grow up being shown only one path, it’s hard to look around at the other ones around you.

Andrea was a fantastic heroine, she was smart, kind and wanted her life’s work to mean something. She was a perfect teacher, valuing each one of her students for their strengths and differences, knowing they had the ability to change their own lives for the better. And the way she always believed Stu was more than he thought he was made me love her.

Thief of Hearts can be read as a standalone, but I recommend also reading the previous book as some of the story connects. Fantastic, original romance story, something I can always expect from this author.

“You shouldn’t always dismiss things before they’ve had a chance to wow you. If you do, you’ll miss everything that’s wonderful in the world.”

The whole world might be in love with him. But all he’s ever loved is her.

Grant Turner’s name is synonymous with football. The fans and media can’t get enough of the player known as The Invincible Man, a nickname he earned while growing up in one of the toughest neighborhoods in the country and the nickname he’s kept by being one of the best players in professional football today. No one can take him down. He’s unstoppable.

But even a suit of armor has its weak point, and Grant’s has always been Ryan Hale.
They were a couple of kids when they fell in love, and just when it looked like the happy ending neither expected was within reach, Ryan disappeared. No explanations. No good-byes.

Grant coped by throwing himself into the game for seven years, and he’s finally moved on. Or so he thinks.

When she walks back into his life, all of those feelings come crashing back, despite the warnings in his head that tell him she’ll leave him again. Grant can withstand the league’s toughest defensive line, but he’s always been weak where she’s concerned.

No man can take Grant Turner down.

But one woman certainly can.

One woman will.

How many men after me?” His forehead creased as he asked his question, setting down his fork.
His question surprised me. “What?”
“How many men have you been with since you were with me?”
I swallowed the bite of onion ring and set down what was left of it. Wolfing down fried food didn’t pair well with this type of conversation. “Like how many guys have I dated? Had as boyfriends?” My weight shifted on the counter stool I was situated on. “Had sex with?”
Grant’s jaw tensed, but he relaxed it right after. He answered me by lifting a shoulder.
The longer I took to answer, the more he looked like he was bracing himself for a full-on dissertation. Little did he know my answer to his questions could be summed up in one breath.
“I haven’t had any boyfriends since you,” I admitted, feeling kind of silly admitting it. At the same time, I felt strong. I’d never felt the need to fill a void in my life with a man. I’d never needed a man to define me. What Grant and I had had was special, and what we’d created together was even more special. I wasn’t about to let some shmuck looking to get a little piece of ass cheapen my whole experience with relationships.
The corners of Grant’s mouth were twitching, but he didn’t let the smile form. “What about dates?”
I leaned toward him. “Same story.”
He let the smile form then.
“And I thought we’d agreed to move on from the dating topic earlier tonight.” Giving him the look didn’t faze him—it never really had. Even my most impressive Look.
“Fine. No more talk about dating.” He lifted his hands in the air and pretended like he was getting back to finishing up the last few remnants of our gluttonous feast. When he just kept twirling the same fry in a gob of ketchup, I knew he hadn’t moved on yet. “How many have you had sex with?”
“Grant . . .”
“I need to know, Ryan. I know I don’t have any right to know. I also know you had a right to sleep with whoever you wanted.” He paused, his face looking like he was being tortured. “I just need to know.”
My lungs felt like limp bags when I thought about answering his question. Not because I was embarrassed or ashamed or anything like that, but because he’d know once I told him. He’d know the reason why, and he’d know he was that reason why.
He’d know I’d never really moved on from him, and I couldn’t have him knowing that because I needed to keep a careful distance between us. I needed to protect him, not from himself this time, but from me.
But even though I knew all of that, I also knew that the truth had never been optional when it came to Grant and me. Never a choice. The truth wasn’t what we picked when it was convenient. It had been the standard from the beginning, and if I had anything to do with it, it would remain the standard to the end.
The truth. I’d told him almost everything I had to. Almost. The one last thing I was withholding would have to come out soon.
“You were the first person I had sex with, Grant Turner.”
He slowly twisted toward me, his legs spreading wide, tucking around the outsides of mine. His hands lowered to my kneecaps, like he was trying to show me that no matter how I answered, he still wanted to be here with me—eating greasy food in an old diner that had already locked its doors.
One of my hands covered one of his. “And you were the last person I had sex with too.” It came out in one long exhale, my fingers braiding tighter through his with each word.
He was quiet for a minute. And then another. When his silence continued, my eyes lifted to see what was the matter.
His forehead was folded in half a dozen creases, his eyes narrowed in confusion. “Are you saying . . .?” He leaned in closer, confusion settling deeper.
“You’re the last person I had sex with.” I thought I’d spelled it out pretty solidly before.
His face ironed out, blinking like he was just waking up. “Does that mean . . .?”
I sighed. “I haven’t had sex in seven years? Yeah. That’s what it means.”
Glancing behind the counter, I made sure the owner and cook, who’d generously agreed to let us stay late, were still way in the back and preoccupied with something other than the conversation happening at the two end counter stools.
Grant leaned closer, his head moving just outside of mine. His breath was just rushed enough to notice. “Are you saying I’m the last man you’ve had inside you?”
His words surprised me, sending a shiver winding down my spine. I didn’t want him to know that his question or his proximity or his labored breaths were affecting me, but they were. I was feeling very, very affected in certain locations of my body.
“I think that’s the general definition of sex, yeah,” I answered, glancing down to make sure nothing too obvious was showing through the thin material of the dress. Thank god I’d gone with the thicker lined bra, because Grant’s eyes followed mine a moment later.
When my gaze dropped to a certain spot on his body, I found his own arousal not so easily disguised. It made the inhale I’d been taking sound more like more of a gasp than a breath. He knew what I was looking at, he knew what was on display, and he didn’t do anything to adjust or hide it. He wanted me to know. He wanted me to see.
Realizing that sent a rush of pleasure through my body, pooling between my legs.
“I’m going to kiss you, Ryan.” His head nuzzled my neck. “I should probably ask permission, but fuck, I don’t want to, because I have to kiss you. Whether you think it’s a good idea or not.”
My arms went limp, my legs following, from the sickness I had for this man. The one that crippled me. The one that paralyzed me. My eyes squeezed closed when his face came around in front of mine. “You don’t want to kiss me, Grant.”
He pulled me closer. “Like hell I don’t.”

Beard Science

Beard Science by Penny Reid

5 leprosy stars!

“ You’ll know one day, Cletus. You’ll discover what it’s like to find the other part of yourself. You’ll know it’s her, only her, always her. Maybe not right away, but eventually you’ll know. She’ll be your beginning, middle and end. And your intentions won’t matter. Love brings its own intentions, and all other plans, hopes and dreams fade to insignificance in the face of love.”

So let me start off with why I am the worst Penny Reid fan ever. I’ve read all but one of her books, and I have enjoyed every single last one of them. Do I enjoy some more than others? Yes. But never, not once has this woman ever let me down. So when I went into Beard Science, I went in with extremely low expectations and to be honest, some reservations. Because, (AND SHAME ON ME) my messed up brain thought “there’s no way Cletus can live up to the hype.”

Let me tell you something:

CLETUS LIVES UP TO THE HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you get that? Once more:

CLETUS LIVES UP TO THE HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I think you got it now.

Beard Science is the third book in the Winston Brother series (not including Beauty and the Mustache) and can be read as a standalone novel. Cletus is the overly intelligent and odd brother of the Winston clan. But what many do not know about him is behind his innocent and peculiar behavior there is a dark and conniving mind filled with revenge plots and espionage. Jennifer Sylvestor is the town sweetheart, the Banana Cake Queen. Often overlooked or written off as simple, she lives a lonely life dictated by her parents.

When a happenstance situation gives Jennifer some valuable information about Cletus, Jennifer uses it to have Cletus help her with something she needed. Knowing how smart he is, Jennifer has observed Cletus among the rest of the town and she can see through the front he provides to everyone else. When Jennifer comes into his life, she’s not what Cletus expected. As he helps her with her problem, he discovers there is more to her than meets the eye, just like him.

“I’m not scary, I’m ridiculous.”
“You are many things, Cletus Winston, but nothing about you is ridiculous.”

This is the first time I have ever finished a book and then sat there and felt anger begin to course through me because it was over. That has never happened to me before. I sat there for 30 minutes, mad because that story had ended, and I was no longer a part of Cletus and Jennifer’s world.

Then I reminded myself of this:

There were so many time when reading this book when I cracked up, I even did a very unattractive laugh snort. I even teared up a couple of times. There’s something about Cletus and Jennifer together that was magical, their understanding and respect of each other, and how they both share vulnerabilities. I loved how Cletus is so intelligent and yet so oblivious at the same time, how Jennifer saw him for all he was. I just flat out loved this book!

And Billy fans out there (who by the way is MINE) Penny throws us a bone!!! Gah! Love that man! Le sigh. I suspect a lot of feels in the future.

Anyways, this is one of my favorite books Penny has ever written, it’s something really special. There is not one thing I did not love about it, every single bit of this book was pure awesome.

“I loved her both rationally and irrationally. And I wanted her with a ferocity that had kept me awake at night and tortured during the day.”

At 32, Russell Green has it all:  a stunning wife, a lovable 6 year-old daughter, a successful career as an advertising executive and an expansive home in Raleigh.  He is living the Dream, and his marriage to the bewitching Vivian is the center of that dream.  But underneath the shiny surface of this perfect existence, fault lines are beginning to appear . . . and no one is more surprised than Russ when he finds every aspect of the life he took for granted turned upside down.

In a matter of months, Russ finds himself without a job or wife, caring for his young daughter London while struggling to adapt to a new and baffling reality.  Trying to launch his own business while grappling with the demise of his marriage, the only thing he knows for certain is that London must be sheltered from the consequences of these radical changes.  Throwing himself into the wilderness of single parenting, Russ embarks on a journey at once terrifying and rewarding – one that will test his abilities and his emotional resources beyond anything he ever imagined.

When a chance encounter with an old flame tempts him to take a chance on love again, he will navigate this new opportunity with trepidation and wonder.  But with the loyal support of his parents and his wise older sister Marge, and in the hard-won lessons of fatherhood, Russ will finally come to understand the true nature of unconditional love –  that it is a treasure to be bestowed, never earned.

Bedmates by Nichole Chase

3.5 stars!

A romance about the President’s daughter and the Vice President’s son. Maddie is an outspoken animal activist and Jake is a war veteran who always falls in line. After Maddie gets in trouble for breaking into an animal testing facility, she is put on tour helping out veterans. Jake and Maddie never really got along as kids, but as adults there is a spark between them.

Jake and Maddie embrace their feelings for each other, but when Jake receives bad news it threatens their relationship.

I enjoyed this book for the most part, it’s a sweet enemies, to friends to lover’s story with a few agendas written in. Definitely an interesting concept because of the political ties and scenarios. My personal reading tastes are what prevented me from enjoying this book more, I’m not a huge fan of sweet romance and everything tied together a little too perfectly in the end.

I do think many readers will love this book and love the story between Jake and Maddie, it’s one that I think will hit home for a lot of readers whose spouses have fought abroad and survived. May this book be a reminder to cherish those we love and to provide more to our veterans.
