That Thing Between Eli & Gwen by JJ McAvoy
Wildcard rears its ugly head again. I enjoyed this book from McAvoy, I just didn’t fall in love with it. BUT, I think I am alone in this opinion, because so many other people loved it, and I think you need to read their reviews AND read it for yourself before listening to me.
JJ McAvoy is a great writer, she never fails to deliver characters that feel real to me. Gwen, an artist has been dumped by her fiance at a wedding…. for the bride. Eli is the jilted groom. When Gwen and Eli first meet, they don’t like each other at all. But the more they are thrown together, the more they find opposites attract and soon neither one can deny their feelings for the other.
The first half of this book was great, lots of the hate/love banter many readers will enjoy. Eli and Gwen sparring will bring a smile to your face. For me from the halfway point the story began to drag and I found myself a little bit bored and wanting to skim. I also didn’t care for some events that happened near the end and that’s the bulk of why my rating is a 3 star read and not a 4 star one.
But like I said, I appear to be the only one who just liked this book and didn’t love it. I really think you should read it for yourselves and make up your own minds because you may love it! JJ is an excellent author and I never regret reading anything she writes.
