Authors in the OC 2014

Had a crazy eventful day. Today was the authors in the OC event 2014, and I barely made it! Here’s my story:

After a huge internet search the night before I discovered tickets could be bought at the door despite the event being sold out. So the day of (today) I got numerous routes to take from my hometown in northern LA to Anaheim. It was practically like something out of the SNL skit The Californians

Well, I made the wrong damn choice. I took the 134 to the 210 to the 57. And HOLY SHIT THE 57 FREEWAY IS A LIVING NIGHTMARE. I got stuck in traffic and did not move more than 1/2 a mile in 1 HOUR! So at this point I’m late, I don’t even know if there will be any tickets left, and I’m calling my dad and acting like a spaz to find out what the problem was. There was a gigantic accident. *sigh*

Anyways I get there, almost an hour late but luckily they were super nice and I got a ticket and a cute pink tote bag. Did I mention this was a fundraiser for breast cancer? Go to this link for more info on the event and how you can help. It’s a great cause.

Went inside and first up I got to meet Paige Weaver! Paige wrote one of the first NA books I’ve ever read called Promise Me Darkness and I adored it. Needless to say I had a very one-sided conversation with the author, got my book and left because it kind of felt like she didn’t want to be there.

Then I got to meet Krista and Becca Ritchie! I had been tweeting with Becca for the last couple of days because I had needed a book trailer for a school project and she sent me theirs. When I got to the table and my turn came up I explained who I was and both twins jumped up and hugged me. I was in shock! I didn’t expect such a warm hello from an author(s) to a fan. Very surreal. Both ladies are extremely nice, and I love their books so if you haven’t read The Addicted series yet please do so now. And if you get the opportunity to go to one of their book signings do it.

Next up was RK Lilley. Another extremely kind author, she was there with her husband(?) who was also very friendly. Got to chat with her about Vegas and such and she was decked out in Edward Scissorhands and Nightmare Before Christmas stuff, so basically she’s awesome. And incredibly tall. I’m average height (5’5″) and she towered over me. I needed some heels or something.

Also, here is the incredibly unflattering photo of me. RK looks great.

Anyways I pretty much left after that because well, I ran out of money and I had met the authors I wanted to meet. I then took the 5 freeway home with no trouble and got to spend the rest of the day with these 2 hot bitches.

Over and out!

  1. I loved it there too. I did feel a little weird about Paige as well. Krista and Becca did jump up and hug me as well, because we talk over twitter.

And yes, that was R.K.’s husband. P.S. she was tall. I’m like 5’7 and she surprised me.

  2. Aw, I’m so glad you had fun! Sorry one of the authors left you lukewarm when you met her. Maybe she was having a bad day or problems in everyday life? Though that kind of doesn’t excuse things because signing is still a job of an author and it should be fun and exciting. But hey! You got to meet other great authors too and yayyyyy for Krista and Becca! They’re such sweethearts and I can’t wait to meet them in person one day 🙂 LOL! I’ll try and remind this 1/2 miles in 1 hr whenever I sit in traffic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I love author/book events’ posts 🙂 Hope you have a lovely weekend!
